"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down upon the collar of his robes".Proverbs 133:1
Thank you Brice for sharing, I have learned something new. Your experience in the importance of names is similar to my culture. Names comes with meaning and has its historical importance as well. I know how it feels when someone call me by a nick name that has no meaning to me, or pronounced my name wrong.
ReplyDeleteEboule, so sorry to hear that "name calling" affected your Maths grades. Its really a serious issue which needs to appropriately addressed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hear that thing about Africa too. Someone will ask you that "This person came to Africa. Did you see or meet him or her?" And I'm like, "really?".
But somehow, I will be quick to jump to their defence somehow. They really don't know and are really that ignorant because they've probably lived all their life in one country and that's all they know.
I know it's annoying but we just have to try and educate them more about Africa.
Thank you Brice for sharing your experience and the meaning of your name. I really think the importance of a name cannot be over emphasized. A name carries a lot of weight to the bearer so its rather unfortunate your teacher failed to recognize this and chose to call you by another name. It is very essential we correct people as knowledge is just within our reach and thus, not much room for ignorance especially when it comes to the culture of a people. Thank you for sharing.
